Professional Focused

Workshops

We offer a wide range of workshops on assessing and managing violence risk. They are designed for professionals either working on their own, or as part of a team. We believe training should first engage people at an emotional level to build motivation, then engage them at an intellectual level to develop their knowledge, and finally engage them at a practical level by developing their skills. Our workshops always use a mixture of lecture, group discussion, and small- and large-group exercises, and we rely heavily on case examples to illustrate key points. Our workshop curricula are all evidence-based, reflecting a deep appreciation of the relevant scientific, professional, and legal literature. We regularly evaluate and improve our workshops by collecting, reviewing, and analyzing participants’ evaluations. We present those analyses to our clients, and we have even published them in peer reviewed academic journals and presented them at national and international professional meetings.

We offer three types of workshops. Workshops can be customized based on the needs of an organization and the level of experience of its staff by bundling topics and tools together.

Specific Topics and Tools

These workshops cover specific topics and tools related to violence risk identification, assessment, and management. All of these workshops provide participants with both knowledge and skills. They focus either on learning how to administer specific tools for diverse forms of violence, or on learning about how to handle specific topics related to implementation in practice. It is possible to “bundle” several of these workshops together.

We offer certificates confirming attendance to everyone who completes these workshops. Working in partnership with ConCEpt, we are pleased to offer continuing education credits approved by a variety of professional organizations.

Train-the-Trainer Certification Programs

Training others to use a tool requires more than experience. We have developed specialized programs to help professionals learn how to deliver Protect’s training workshops for various tools (such as the HCR-20 V3, SARA-V3, and B-SAFER) using Protect’s own curricula and materials. The programs provide potential trainers with the opportunity to demonstrate their expertise in the use of tools, master the content of our training programs as well as the process of training, and deliver training with our approval and ongoing support. We believe completion of such programs clearly demonstrates that trainers strive to meet the highest ethical, professional, and legal standards.
