This workshop will provide an opportunity to learn new skills and build on existing skills in assessing and managing risk for self-directed violence (suicide). In recent years, there has been an emphasis on the importance of using structured methods that incorporate clinical judgment and evidence-based guidelines to assess and manage risk for self-directed violence rather than relying solely on clinical judgment, basic checklists, or actuarial methods.

During the 2-Day Workshop, participants will learn about general principles of risk assessment and management and the use of the Self-Directed Violence – 20 (SDV-20) for assessing and managing risk for self-directed violence. The SDV-20 is a set of guidelines for comprehensive self-directed violence risk assessment and management developed according to the Structured Professional Judgment (SPJ) model. It is based on research, supported by best practice, and acceptable in a court of law.

Thousands of professionals from hundreds of settings across the world have taken part in our workshops to date and the procedures developed by our Threat Assessment Specialists are among the most widely used in the field. Our violence risk assessment and management workshops are the only ones in this field that have been subjected to systematic empirical research and evaluations indicate that the vast majority of participants recommend our workshops.
